SIR F.H.MAY, K.C.M.G.

sir,

Downing Street,

August, 1913.

Hrat 14 AUG 13

I have the honour to acknowledge

the receipt of your despatch No.231 of the

3rd of July reporting that the Government

of Hong Kong cannot undertake any liability

for pension in respect of the service of

Ismail Khan which was not under the Colonial

Government.

2.

I am not certain whether you

have fully apprehended the proposal

contained in the War Office letter of the

30th of May. As I understand that letter

the Army Council suggest that Ismail Khan's

service in the Hong Kong Regiment and in

the Hong Kong Police should be regarded as

continuous pensionable service. In that

event the Council would be prepared to

consider whether, on his being pensioned

from the Police, a contribution could be

made from Army Funds in respect of his

military service the Colonial Government

being liable for that portion of the

pension only which represents service in

the Police.

3.

I should be glad to learn whether

the negative decision conveyed in your

despatch
